My name is Esperanza Hernandez and I was born in Veracruz, Mexico. I migrated to the United States when I was two years old and have lived in Durham, North Carolina ever since. My background as a formerly undocumented immigrant fueled my passion for immigrant rights and interest in Mexican-American history. I was raised by an amazing single mom who has motivated me to pour my best into my education at Duke. I am a first-generation student studying Public Policy, History, and Latino Studies in the Global South. I hope to dedicate my life to serving the Latinx immigrant community as a civil rights or immigration attorney.
