Latinx Urban History of Durham

This course focuses on original historical research on the history of Latinos/as in Durham, NC and the Research Triangle Area. Students will produce original projects that bring attention to the underserved histories of Latino/a communities in the American South. How have Latinos/as affected the history and development of Durham? How has the city been shaped by migratory patterns? How have the interaction between different groups made the history of Durham both unique and part of larger national and transnational trends? Students will develop an original project over the course of the semester, involving various modes of inquiry, including archival research and oral history collection. Instructor:  Mauricio Castro.
